Pretty weird piece of gear, some kind of OEM offering, not really for consumer use.
MSRP of $1495 doesn't help either. I guess labs/institutions might pick these up for customization...
http://archwave.net/files/10_USB_Stick_Recorder_V1.pdf Archwave, a leader in semiconductor and software for professional audio connectivity, today announced the industry's simplest USB Stick Recording solution as part of its flagship Bebob Software Development Kit (SDK).
Targeting OEM manufacturers of mixers and break-out boxes, the Bebob SDK is the perfect solution to enable multi-track recording to USB storage devices where computer connectivity is not always practical or available. The Bebob SDK together with the DM1500E Audio Processor forms the industry's first complete system-on-a-chip (SoC) solution that combines both USB recording and USB Audio / Firewire connectivity into a highly integrated, single-chip design. It provides OEMs with a complete platform for future PC connectivity requirements that supports both USB audio recording and streaming, as well as Firewire connectivity.
The USB Stick Recorder is ideal for a wide range of end products, including mixers, breakout boxes, and portable recorders looking to simplify multi-track recording for musicians, bands, DJs, and sound engineers during live performances or rehearsals who need advanced recording capabilities without always having to connect to a PC.
"Archwave is simplifying the recording process for consumers with a proven, complete single-chip solution that offers OEMs both a time-to-market advantage and cost-effective design," said Rolf Koch, CTO of Archwave. "This new addition to our Bebob SDK not only serves multiple applications, but enables us to offer more than just a stand-alone USB / Firewire connectivity silicon solution. We are providing a platform for the future that allows OEMs to easily and cost-effectively deliver products that can also support the evolution of audio to computer connectivity."
Product Information
The Bebob SDK supports PC-free audio production with 16 / 8 channel recording capabilities and transparent 24-bit at 48 / 96 kHz audio quality, provides recording of up to 16 channels directly to a USB memory stick or hard drive allowing of up to 8 hours recording on 32GB USB Stick and over 100 hours recording on a 500GB USB Hard Drive. Audio files are stored in uncompressed WAVE format allowing full compatibility with all digital audio workstations (DAWs). Inbuilt file management capabilities allow splitting audio files during recording with sample accurate precision greatly simplifying multi-record sessions.
The Bebob SDK offers the following advanced features for USB audio recording:
* Record multi-track sessions without the need of a PC.
* Simultaneous recording of 16 / 8 channels, up to 24-bit at 48 / 96 kHz audio quality to most USB storage devices.
* Plug’n’record - automatically detects USB removable storage device.
* Auto configuration through detection of USB bandwidth.
* Generates uncompressed WAVE format files allowing full compatibility with all digital audio workstations.
* Customizable user interface allowing a wide range of user options.
* Integrates with DM1500E removing the need for any additional external ICs.
Pricing and Availability
The USB Stick Recorder Solution is bundled together with the DM1500E at no extra charge and is currently shipping in sample volume quantities to early access customers. Pricing of the DM1500E is available upon request.
A complete reference design is available for the USB Stick Recorder Solution including evaluation board, hardware designs, Bebob SDK, together with the DM1500E Audio Processor and is available for $1495 USD in limited quantities.
