Recording full of bass? Or it was the reverberation of the room?
« on: February 06, 2011, 12:57:43 PM »

Hi!

This recording was made in a kind of bar, with concrete walls at side, glass at the rear, and a metal roof with 15 or 20 meters height.

I was FOB, sitted. The lineage was AT853 (omnis) > CA-9100 (bass roll-off OFF) > R-09HR (24bits, 96KHz).

Is there some equalization that can be done in order to "save" this recording?

Thanks.
Regards.

run a high pass filter on it when you are in the editing process. You will have to play with the roll off freq. till it sounds right. Just be careful not to overdo it and remove too much low freq.

It sounds like, and the waveform confirms, that the mics weren't able to handle the pressure the bass put out.  So while there's no clipping, there's plenty of distortion.  There's no way to get rid of the distortion in post, you can only boost other frequencies to mask it.  Running a steep roll off from 320Hz lessens the effect, but you can still hear it.  If you have the 4.7k mod on the 853s, check your batteries.  If you don't, get it.

Hi!

Thanks for reply.

My AT853 doesn't have the 4.7k mod, unfortunately. Do you know someone who are able to do it?

By the way, the mod needs to be made on the caps or in the body? And cards needs this mod too?

Thanks.
Regards.
