Superlux Mics
« on: February 20, 2004, 08:18:34 PM »
I recently purchased a D8 and am looking for some fairly reasonable priced mic's.  I have been told by a couple of people to check out the Superlux SMK- H8K  mics.  I am curious to hear from people who use them about how they sound and what pre amp or power unit should be run with them.
Thanks for any info you can provide!

I can send you a few tapes I've made with 'em.  PM me

I have heard some nice tapes with them. Match them up with a DIY ua5 and you got a rig of about $300 minus the deck. Not bad and I bet the tapes sound pretty good

i run the superlux SMK- H8K, i have all three caps for them and all of times i've used them i've been very pleased with the recording.  i run those into a ua-5 > njb3.  they sound nice and they're a good beginner mic.  i could also hook you up with some samples if you'd like.

UA-5 = preamp
DIY = Do It Yourself standalone mod, versus the Oade Brother's variant.
Governor Jim McGreevey was equally disturbed about the upcoming population increase. "New Jersey cannot support all of these wookies," he said. "For starters, we don't have nearly enough kindbud. At best, we can muster up a Q.P. of some beasties, but we've not a dime-bag more."

What is the stand alone mod.  Is it something I can do?  I have check out the Oade mods on their sight.  Is it similar?
Thanks for helping me out!

Yeah, it's this cool site called www.taperssection.com.  Check it out some time.  There's probably been about 50 threads on the topic and they have also archived every nook and crany of the blasted thing
good luck

thats one of my shows, superlux > DIY digimod UA-5 > njb3 - i ran xy from about 50ft back, i didn't know how the room would sound cuz i had never been at that bar before, thats why i ran xy, now i wish i woulda ran something else, cuz the low end doesn't sound all that great.

if you click the browse shows for the fuzz, i'll be uploading a ton more shows that were recorded with the same setup in the next week or so.
