AKG C460B,CK61-ULS,CK1X... (thanks for the help)
« on: March 08, 2011, 07:45:11 AM »
All in VG condition. No issues.
The bodies and caps are very well kept (A)
The cables and caps show some use (B/B+)
What would you say the current value of this package is ?
A range would be good.
thanks.

I've owned a few pairs of these and have a friend that still owns a pair. the range I've bought and sold in has been $800-$1100. The bodies are basically worth $300. I've seen dozens of pairs of them sell for right around that price. The caps and cables are where things get fuzzy. The only valuable part of the cables are the connectors on the body side. The lemo connectors and the wire is replaceable fairly easily. However, most people won't want to mess with that, so in good condition the cables are worth a tad more than a beat up pair. I'd guess in good condition they are worth $300-$350. in poor condition $250. The caps are a real crap shoot. In great condition $400 isn't too high. If they are beat to shit they might be worth $150 or less. Remember getting these caps worked on is really difficult, and may not even be possible in some circumstances. So the condition of the caps will have a huge impact on the value.

lowball figures...

460s... $300/pair
ck61s... $300/pair
ck1xs... $300/pair
mk46s... $300/pair
so $1100 for the package would be a good deal

like Shawn said, it depends on condition

The capsule prices are reasonable, but I might put 460 bodies a bit higher than that.  Well, if someone wants to sell me a set of 460 bodies at $300, let me know :).

BTW, why aren't you keeping this setup?  It looks great, and would be hard/expensive to acquire it again later.

as I mentioned... those are lowball figures
I paid $300 for my bodies, but there was a problem with them that the seller wasn't aware of either (another story, another thread)
after looking at the picture above, I would say you could go higher on the bodies and caps

I might have been interested in the actives... but since there will be a Naiant active setup available later this year
I have no plans in buying more capsules since that setup will utilize all the caps I currently own  :D

I think the prices darby listed are reasonable and in line with used sales. There seems to have been a ton of 460s on the taper market in the last few years so the prices here are a little lower than ebay or gearslutz.

One of those extension cables looks a little rough so they may fetch a little less but the rest of it looks to be in good shape. Since you are handy with a soldering iron you might come out better if you replaced the cables but those lemos are a bitch to work with.

Also if the aftermarket active cable thing takes off the value of the AKG CK1x will plummet (at least in the taper community) since it will utilize the more available CK61/2/3 capsules

I really wanted an idea of what people are getting for these now.
I've actually reconsidered selling for the moment.
These mics are gorgeous looking & sounding.
I'm not sure I even want to part with them later.

I just did an extensive test on them in my living room last night.
I threw a Dick's Picks on the stereo, and played around with placement and levels.
They're so smooth and clean. (the pre w/ cap and the ck1x's)
I'm jones-ing to go record a show now  ::)

But that may all change if I get desperate for $$  :-\

Well, I just think it would be a shame to part with this set.  It looks sooooo nice.

But that is coming from someone who has a huge collection of obscure mics, including Beyerdynamic,  etc.

I'm not selling, just getting a current value.
I'm not working and looking at my options as well.

I played around with them last nite and realized how much I like them over other mics I've owned.
I also own a pretty large set of the AKG blueline series.
Those sound real nice too, but I think these are bit sharper in clarity.
Some others too, but the point is...I'm keeping them for now !

(truth be told, I was drooling over Ted's Sonosax in YS, so...)
but I reconsidered.

Attaboy.
And I fully agree with you on these and the se300 series.
The 460's have that detail/clarity that the 39x lack.

aren't the ck1xs the ones you CAN run with the TinyBox?
if so they are  more sought after for sure -
