Topic: Mic stand recommendations?

Hey all,
 I 've been looking through pages and pages of "lighting stands" on B&H photo looking for a decent mic stand.. I could use some friendly Taperssection guidance.. I have a stand now that is roughly 20+ years ago.I bought it with my 1st setup (some nak300's) in 2000 from an old Dead taper who said the stand had been to hundreds of dead shows. Anyhoo, its day are over, its been retapped twice, and the footprint is HUGE on this.. Here is what I thnk I'm looking for

mic stand:
10 ft
small footprint
dosent have to be too heavy duty since I run 4022's and am usually the clamper and not the clampee..
The footprint size is most important.

Any recommendations?

when I was in the market for a stand last year I went with this, and have been really happy with it. goes up to 13 feet (though I've only had to go that high once).

This is the stand I use:

Now the footprint is spec'd at 36", but it can be adjusted to be much smaller, down to about 14".  The above stand goes up to 13' (4 m) which is handy at times.  This particular stand is not air cushioned, but I have not found that to be a problem.  If you want an air cushioned version, they sell that too.

B&H also sells this:

which is a 10' stand.  I suspect this stand can be adjusted to have a smaller than the spec'd footprint of 34", but I cannot say for sure since I have never used this 10' stand.

Of course you should adjust the stand to have the largest footprint possible in a particular situation to keep the stand stable.

if you're looking for a small footprint, also consider a clamp and arm as a secondary way to get your mics up in the air.  If you have a spot to clamp at the board, it's so easy and out of the way.

If you add 2 you can reach 13-14 feet with a VERY small footprint. I use it all the time with my compact mics and its very stable. If you use heavier stuff you can put sand/water bags on the legs..I use this all the time specially in live concerts so it's not obstructive to the audience view.

I use a stand I bought from Sonic Sense years ago.  It was a little much $$ but it goes up 15 feet and is very compact.

That being said, all of the links on this page will get you to the right spot.  Now you have to ask yourself . . .how high do you wanna go?

Recommend getting a black stand as they don't stand out as much, less annoying to your fellow concert goers. But white tape the legs so they don't get tripped on.

or you can install LED lights on the legs so they don't get tripped on, but look out for the tripping wookies, they will freak out and just start speaking in wookie!

Yeah I have thought many a time about installing lights on my stand legs.  I wonder how easy that would be.

I actually use a Clip on Book Led Light for this purpose at large shows.  Just clip to the top where all the legs start and it makes a nice bright circle around where the legs are. 

Tripping Wooks have no idea what to make of it . . .so they walk around
