hey I got these LED string lights at REI
http://www.rei.com/product/807914?s_kwcid=TC%7C13029%7Ceno%20twilights%7C%7CS%7Cp%7C6683328965&cm_mmc=ps_google_CH-_-Category%20-%20Camp%5FGear-_-Camp_Gear_Brand_ENO-_-ENO%20Twilights&gclid=CJOmvKOzlagCFRNrgwodVSXpCw

used them at the Sunday YMSB show- around the base foot print (tripod legs) of my mic stand - it seemed to be effective at alerting even the most wasted of folks that there was something down there!

so where should I get the bar that I can put my shock mounts on?

And will it clamp/screw directly on??

What if I want to put other mic(s) on the stand as well??

Arrrgh, my heads hurts...

Did somebody say clamp?

Check out the The ultimate clamping and rigging team thread on the planet!!!

"I 've been looking through pages and pages of "lighting stands" on B&H photo looking for a decent mic stand."

As a photographer for many years I'll suggest this one at 9.5 feet:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/253069-REG/Impact_LS_96HAB_Air_Cushioned_Heavy_Duty_Light.html

I have a couple of them. It will handle some pretty big lighting units so a mic rig should be fine. Less than $40.

I HIGHLY recommend the AEA stand that Sonic Sense sells. I bought mine new in 1998, and its still going strong til this day 8) Its pricey, but I have DEF got my $$ out of it!

when I was in the market for a stand last year I went with this, and have been really happy with it. goes up to 13 feet (though I've only had to go that high once).

http://www.amazon.com/Manfrotto-1004BAC-Master-Stand-Black/dp/B0023RRPE2

I just had one of these bad boys delivered to me today. One thing wasn't obvious to me until after I ordered it, though: the 5/8" portion of the mounting stud is NOT THREADED. There is a 3/8" threaded top, and a brass 3/8"-to-1/4" adapter supplied. If you need to mount a 5/8" mic bar, you'll need an adapter (either 3/8"-to-5/8" or 1/4"-to-5/8" will work).
