Close to five hours, but lithium energizers and the sanyo enloops seem to be of choice. Lots of threads about it.

Got tired of wasteful battery changes between sets to be certain of having enough power without running out.  Since picking up a Tekkeon external battery have had no more battery changes or power worries, more affordable DVD batteries could work too.  Also picked up some rechargeable AA Eneloops; but really only use them for playback, emergency backup or when feeding a digital signal into the deck.

There is no Lithium setting in the 661, thus Lithium AA's will last a long time indicating 100% charge but will suddenly drop to no charge with little advance warning.  YMMV but since the Lithium AA option is expensive, will fail with little warning and are not reusable they are not the way to go IMHO.

I typically get 4-5 hours with 2500mAh Sanyos using Schoeps CCMs with P48, backlight at '1', LCD on powersave, and LEDs on.  Easiest way to go, IMO, is to bring two sets of batteries if you're taping an opening act also and swtich between sets.  And for bands that play multiple long sets, maybe an extra set for that.  So 4-6 AAs would suffice, which isn't too bad.  The thing I dislike the most on the 661 is the inability to lock the gain knob that easily gets moved (and has ruined a recording for me before) and is located opposite of the XLR jacks, meaning that you really have to have the 661 horizontal when operating, which is not super convenient.  If they just made an option to lock the gain dial when using the lock switch, it would be a perfect little all-in-one.

best thing I ever bought and have run my mics/rig @24 bit for MORE the 14 hrs with 2-3 lights left.

my Internal battery tray burned up after a year.sent it to doug twice and he never did fix it.so I went external.

I just did a test with my Oade Concert MOD 661 & DPA 4022's to compare the 2 types of Energizer lithiums:

-Mic in, phantom ON
-no LED
-LCD @ 1
-24/48
-levels peaking b/t -20 and -12 dB

"Advanced" lithium = 7:05
"Ultimate"  lithium = 8:12

I am comfortable enough with the machine/battery combo by now to easily get 2 shows out of one set of batteries. Hope this helps...
