And how should I go about building it? Just see if the ac adapter has the tip - [-], and then do the same to the output cable
I DO have a multi-meter so just let me know what I have to do, so I can start using this battery

You can use your multimeter to find out if the output tip is +.
Is the MM digital?
If you test the output tip (of the battery) with the red lead of the MM, and the tip is -, then the MM will read -7.2 instead of 7.2
Does that make sense?
Also, you have to know if the gear you're going to power is tip+. Much gear is, but not all.
