bm2p+ UA-5 vs. Busman HD-P2
« on: May 19, 2011, 01:12:12 AM »
A friend is letting me test drive his Busman mod Tascam HD-P2.  Heading to a show on Thursday night and I've got a few questions...

Been using the bm2p+ UA-5 going into an r-09.  Assuming I'll run s/pdif out from the UA-5 > HD-P2, or run the mics straight into the xlr of the HD-P2.  Any thoughts on what would sound better, or if there would be much difference at all between. I know going mics > HD-P2 is obviously less to deal with, but what sounds better?

mics > HD-P2
or
mics > UA-5 > HD-P2

I know the mod will be heard if I use the xlr, but what about the s/pdif?  Am I bypassing the mod on the HD-P2 by using the digital in?

If you run digital out of the UA5 into the P2 you will not hear the effect of the mod done to the P2.

Run the mics straight into the P2...no need to run the UA5 in front of it.

UA-5 now for sale, as I went mics > HD-P2 and love it.  Less is more for sure.
