Topic: Sony PCM-M10 details?

I was wondering if someone could help me with some information that I could not find in the manual. I currently use a tascam dr-08 but I'm running in to a problem.... perhaps the PCM-M10 would solve the problem...

Just like the PCM-M10 the tascam has its built-in folders of 2GB. If the recording goes beyond that, a new folder is created automatically. The problem is that there's an audio gap between one folder to the other once the track is merged.

The PCM-M10 has 10 folders in its built-in memory of 4GB. My question is:

1.How big is each folder?

2. If my recording goes beyond a folder, would I get a gapless audio when I merge the tracks or there's no solution?

I'm recording about 3 hours in 24/48K

any help please?

the recording doesn't switch folders when you reach the 2gb limit... it just creates a new file in that same folder
without digging out my manual, I THINK you can have up to 99 files in each folder
you have to direct it to record in another folder... never done that myself

I had a recording one night go beyond the 2gb limit, plus it also filled up my card and switched to the internal memory on the M10
I watched when it switched to the internal and it looked like there was a gap, but it was all there when I opened it up in my editing software

That's good to know... I guess I can rest assure that in case a new file is created, I'll be able to merge the 2 files without having an audio gap in between right? That's my main concern...

I'm planning on recording about 3 hrs non stop at the rate of 24/48k and don't want to run into any audio loss even if it's just for one second..

That is correct. The folder are there to help keep filenames short. If they allowed over 99 files in a folder, they'd need to add a character to the filenames, 110619_99 is as high as we can go today.

*p 103 of the manual (troubleshooting section) states that "TRACK FULL" message will display when you try to record in a folder with 99 tracks. It goes on to say that the solution is to delete or move some of the tracks. It doesn't mention that you can just pick a different folder!!?
