JB3 clipping indicator...
« on: March 08, 2004, 09:04:28 AM »
Hi,

At what db is the JB3 clipping indicator turned on?  is it anything above 0 db?  Does this indicator usually turn on a few times a show?

the ua-5 does not have the pretty level indicators like the V3.  I usually use a mix beween the blinking red light on the UA-5 and the visible levels on the unit.

ahhh, sorry, its a lil early for me, umm, have you done any research on the LED meters, nickspicks has something up his sleeve, just get some external levels and run em outta the jb3 hdphone jack

but id just watch the ua-5 peek meters and keep a close eye on em ;)duh, likes thats what you HAVENT been doing :P

does the jb3 have a clipping indicator?  other than the dashed line on the level bars?

I think they intend clipping to be when you get to the top where the double bar shows up.

I measured mine by feeding some white noise into the JB3 and adjusting the level of the analog device until the top indicators were just flicking every so often.  My peaks came in at -1dB.  Too close for comfort - so I'd say you want to back off the levels if you ever see those top bars going.

I just got a JB3 and I'm testing ot out.  When doing an analog line in recording how do I get to/control the recording levels. Is the a way to see the peeks on the player itself?

It should have the levels in the lower right hand corner of the screen when you are recording....make sure you have the latest firmware, I think earlier firmware versions may not have the levels display on 'em.

thanks ChrisV...  I had just upgraded my firmware and found the new firmware contained the new functions.  I was coming back to report a "nevermind" and saw your post. You were absolutely corrent. Thanks again

I'm really diggin this thing.

How hot do you guys run these things?  Are the internal A>D converters good enough to push it up close to clipping?  Or is best to run conservative and normalize on the back end?

If the light's blinking, but not steadily, you should be fine.
