Suggestions for a rackmount SD or CF recorder
« on: December 04, 2011, 12:01:20 PM »
Looking for suggestions for a rack mount recorder that uses CF or SD (SDHC) cards.

I would like something with both analog and digital inputs. I need to be able to record directly to MP3.

Thanks,
Joe

If you can live without higher than 48khz sampling Tascam is a nice choice.  If you have the cash I think it'd be better to buy the newer model and/or move up the product line to get xlr connections and capability to record on SDHC and USB memory rather than just fading CF.  The coolest also has a cd recorder.

There are also some models from Denon that are nice but priced a bit on the high side IMO now that Tascam has upgraded their feature set.

Get an adapter:  http://www.amazon.com/Photofast-MicroSDHC-Adapter-Converts-Capacity/dp/B003NREGZ2

I use one in my Tascam HD-P2 and don't worry about the CF anymore...  Its a MicroSD Recorder now...

Good tip.  Although I like USB too for its ubiquity, saves transferring files to use at work or in the car where there can be no card readers.

I should have noted that the cheapest choice is an "iKey."  I'd exepect it's kinda sucky, but has reasonably good reviews on B&H so who knows.

Yeah, I know about those. But I don't think it'll work with my car stereo and the office computers at my co. are locked down tight.

I have the Tascam SS-R05 and love it.

I use it to transfer Dats. Any high res stuff goes on the 744T. I didn't want to put hundreds of hours on the 744T from Dat transfers.
