CA 11's vs. CA 14's
« on: February 23, 2012, 09:00:38 PM »
Would someone be kind enough to explain the difference between the CA 11's and CA 14's? Apparently they are both the same price.

This one's been beaten to death a dead horse as well.  ;)

http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=120514.msg1609469#msg1609469 is a good place to start.

Size difference, for one, some sound differences (not as signifcant with the version II CA-11's).  The CA-14's are the better bet in most peoples' eyes/ears but it also depends on what you're doing with them.  Try paging through this forum as it's been heavily discussed.

CA11 - card or omni (you can change the cap)
CA14 - card or omni (manufactured in either card or onmi, but you can't change the cap, as the windscreen is integral)
ca-11 and ca-14 have almost identical frequency response in the mid range and here is some info Chris posted a while ago:
The ca-14 is a larger mic with a better overall quality of sound deeper bass the high end is about the same now that I have improved the ca-11 the ca-14 uses a larger 14 mm capsule the ca-11 uses a smaller 8 mm capsule. Both mics are good The ca-14 is more forgiving of placement where as the ca-11 needs to be up high and pointed more directly at the sound source.

Mics: CA-14 (o,c,o)
Remote Power: CA-9100 pre-amp, CA-UBB battery box
Recorders: Sony PCM-M10, Tascam DR-2d
Cable/s: custom 6" GAKables Mini Starquad
Batteries: Maha 9.6V Imedion, Maha Powerex 2700 mAh
Chargers: Maha MH-C9000, MAHA MH-C490F 9 Volt

This is going to change in the next few weeks the CA-14 is going to go up to $139 per pair the ca-11 will stay at $129.00 this is because the ca-14 is much more labor intensive to build than the ca-11.
