Need more help with xACT (1.73)
« on: April 29, 2012, 02:26:20 PM »
I've successfully added the FLAC tags to the first disc that I've converted. Now; what do I do?

I'm guessing that xACT changed the files in the desk top folder that I made that holds the FLAC files, and added the tags. (All I can check are the files that are inside the grey box in the xACT program. When I click on an individual song, I can see the corresponding tag information. How do I verify that it worked on the desktop files?)

What do I do now? Just start on another disc? How should I save the finished files? I want to put them on an external HD. Do they go in folders marked with the artist/date marked? Or is there a better way?

I had kind of hoped to set up a music system on my computer, where I could go to the external HD and select a show and have it play through my stereo, like a massive iPod. How do I go about doing this? Mostly, I want to archive the CDRs that I have for long-term storage for safekeeping. I'm still not ready to give up my discs, but I just want to keep safety copies for the long haul.

Thanks

Cog is a good playback app for Macs which will play Flac files and display tags.  I'd download that, and then drag the tagged files onto Cog.  It should display your tags if you've got them done properly.

I'm organizationally challenged, so I'll stay out of that.  You might want to post these separate questions under separate threads.  I'm not sure where music/file organization would go, but if you ask about computer-based playback systems in the playback board, you'll probably get a lot more eyes than you will on a topic listed as xACT help.

I like Songbird for flac playback. It's gapless and there is a remote control app that works through a wireless network.
