Feedback on Mic.
« on: May 03, 2012, 03:31:26 PM »
Just wondering if anyone had any feedback on these mics.  Behringer C-2 Condenser Microphone.  I kind of figure its going to be a get what you pay for type of thing.

Correct. I've heard pulls with them that I thought were alright, at least listenable. At $65 for a stereo pair one could do worse.  Sound is very bright and hyped.

A quick LMA search pulls up a number of pulls. This is the first I clicked on. http://archive.org/details/Lightajo2010-11-27

I know of at least one TSer who has a set of C4s collecting dust, you might get a nice price if you put up an ISO in the yard sale.
Mics: 3 Zigma Chi HA-FX (COL-251, c, h, o-d, o-f) / Avenson STO-2 / Countryman B3s
Pres: CA-Ugly / Naiant Tinyhead / SD MixPre
Decks: Roland R-44 / Sony PCM-M10
GAKables
Dead Muppets

My recordings LMA / BT / TTD

Not to sure about these good suggestion to list ISO in yard sale. Being a old taper who is used to a sony cassette deck and cheap mic. what will I need to run between Mics. and Sony D50 that I now have? Phantom power?  I run Church CA-14 or 11's into Bat. box made by Church for in door club recordings and am happy with this. Looking for something that might be better for out door shows or large rooms where I can raise up with a stand.

I would perhaps first look at something like used Nak100s or 300s which pop in the YS from time to time.  Your CA-14s may well be better than these Behringers.  In the budget category, the Avantone CK-1s are a good starter, although they are more like $300 for a new pair.

In any event, for a fullsize mic you will need something that provides 48V phantom power. The cheapest thing to get is a simple phantom power supply like the Denecke PS/2 or ART Phantom II. http://www.amazon.com/ART-Phantom-2-Channel-Power-Supply/dp/B0002E57QG/ref=sr_1_2?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1336081541&sr=1-2

However most will suggest that getting a small, battery operated preamp will ultimately prove to be more economical. The Naiant tinybox v2 fits the bill in every respect at $200.

There is a bump in price for a P48 Tinybox v2. The P48 cables are an extra 50. Still a good deal.

Unless you are just really into having more gear - I would suggest looking for something so you can mount the Church mics on a stand. No reason they cant sound great that way...and easily outperform the Behringers, and probably the Avantones also...

FWIW - I've owned both the Avantone CK1s and the Behringer C2s - The C2s are a nice package - but sound like junk. I think I sold mine for 30 bucks for the pair. Avantones are much better - still using those...
