Interesting that they define DIN as 20 cm at 110°. They also mention EBS (Korean) as 25cm at 90°, something I had not heard of. A quick google brought up this page with additional configs. http://lossenderosstudio.com/stereo-microphone-techniques.php

A while back I posted a link to it in Knowledge Base / Archive under Microphones & Setup.

I'm also still hoping someone out there can port the visualizer to an iOS app.

I'm also still hoping someone out there can port the visualizer to an iOS app.

It would be easier to turn it into a mobile web app. I popped the code into Appcelerator and it translated real quick minus all the pictures so if I mess with it I think it will work. Certainly a back-burner type project. But all i did was watch a YouTube vid to learn so it can't be that hard.

Cool, someone finally actually made this.

It needs to simultaneously rotate while changing width though, so you can program it to dynamically sweep through the Stereo Zoom range for any given Stereo Recording Angle while listening.  I was thinking up ways to do that less expensively with mechanical linkages and pivots a number of years ago- the computer controlled robotic version is an obvious if costly alternative to that.

Besides being a great way to optimize a recording setup, adjusting this thing dynamically while recording might also make for an intersting audio effect - perhaps useful to match audio perspective to camera angle while zooming in and out.. or for Hitchcock Vertigo-like audio effects!

It seems like it ought to be easy enough for a developer to port an iOS app of the visualizer, but then I'm not a developer.  Personally I don't want to rely on an internet connection with a mobile device and am hoping for a resident app of it that will work the same way.

I've found that printing out michael williams's charts and laminating the cardioid and supercardioid charts back to back, has satisfied my urge for a mobile app.

this is a vey interesting video.  not sure which config my ears liked best, but i definitely didn't like the X-Y config.  i tried that config once with my MKH8040s and never did it again.  this video just confirmed what my ears already told me several months back.

Pretty cool listening to the steup changes. However, note the unusual (for us) recording scenario of two lines of singers widely seperated and facing each other from the perspective of the recording position.  Not suprising that ORTF and relativly near-spaced omnis omnis sound best there.  I'd love to hear more from various recording situations.

Interesting.. but I wish it was more of a "normal" setup....
Unified Choir in one place with mics out front.  Could be why the X/Y set sound like it had phase problem.. when it should've.
Also not sure where those organ pipes are.
Sennheiser 418s>SDMixPre-D>RO9HR
Beyer MC930>Fostex FM3>NagraSD
Couple of Schoeps CMT441 too.

I was wondering if it swapped channels when switching to and from X/Y or not.  Didn't backup to relisten close enough to tell.  It should do so for that cross-firing configuration, but that shouldn't effect the sound other than reversing Left/Right..

1st show I ever taped w/ my "real rig"[Phish Hampton 12/17/1999], a taper told me to try X/Y. I have only done it ONCE since then, and Im talkin about 1,500+ sets/. I tried DIN-ish on my own on 12/18/1999 and never looked back ;D 8)

XY - great for drumkits, but not much else - I would rather use ORTF or MS normally (or ORTF or MS with omni outriggers).
