extra cap storage?
« on: June 14, 2012, 09:31:27 PM »

I have recently acquired a set of Audio Technica 853 microphones. I have the cardiod and hypercardiod caps. What is the best way to store the extra set, most likely in my taping bag?

I found some plastic cups (1 oz?) with lids at the local hobby store to use for my spare capsules.
I found them in the painting supplies area of the Hobby Lobby. Apparently a painter can mix up a color and use it later if they put the paint in a small cup with a lid.

They had lots of different sizes too.
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

What about an empty prescription bottle?

Yeah, there's no reason that wouldn't work too.

I store them in something like this (general idea)

http://www.amazon.com/Day-Twice-Weekly-Pill-Organizer/dp/B000J191FK/ref=pd_sim_hpc_59

You can find them in any drugstore.

I use these for AT-943 caps...853's should fit nicely as well. Picked them up at wal-mart for around $1 each in the cosmetics department. The foam came from a disused hard-shell case that used to hold a digital micrometer - super glued it in.

Works great...

I have a bunch of small cap type containers lmk if you want some throw me a couple bucks and I'll send them out.   I have three sizes, one would fit a 21mm cap, then they get bigger from there.  Clear and some can be screwed together(stackable)

Plastic aquarium tubing with 1/2 inch inside diameter is cheap and available from such places as pet supply stores. Cut to length for each pair of capsules; push them out with the eraser end of a pencil. This way, they do not bounce around and don't need individual containers. (Saw this idea in an old post in this forum)

Id be worried of storing caps in something too big like a 7 day pill morganizer. They would bounce around and cause scratches on them IMO :)

Well the pill organizer is just for storing at home.  Agreed that it wouldn't be good for transport without some "plush" inserts. ;D

Ahhh gotcha :) I have always used felt-lined 35mm camera cases, but since I got my Schoeps vials that fit the schoeps caps perfectly, I dont need anything else. I believe the schoeps caps are 20mm in diameter ;)

BTW, what is the diamter of the caps youre trying to store? It may be worth looking at those awesome schoeps vials and theyre rather cheap :) Best cap holders BY FAR IMHO ;)

My AT853 capsules are in a bag made from anti-static bubble wrap and gaff tape. Been meaning to find something better...

A "Lock and Lock" case is the ticket...

Model HPL 805 is perfect for many things.....  A Lenmar 7800 battery fits perfect,  just add some foam then you can store a pair of full size caps or several small caps.  All in a air tight package.

I use a Cigar Caddy case for my body and capsule storage.  Because I have three sets of caps, I use two Cigar Caddies.  One for the bodies / one set of attached caps and the other for the other four capsules.  Diameter of my mics is 21mm; the Cigar Caddy is built for 20mm.  No problems.
