MD matrix question...
« on: March 17, 2004, 08:44:35 PM »
Im gonna be running a matrix on saturday for the first time.  I have an MD and a d8.  Im gonna use the MD for the soundboard and the d8 for the mics.  When i mix it in post will there be an problems with lining them up because they are differnet media?  The reason i ask is because i heard about a problem with this once on the board.

yeah there's a really good chance that the audio will not remained synched. what I do is put them in CEP multitrack. I line them up at the beginning, then I listen VERY CAREFULLY (headphones work best, quality stereo headphones with a headphome amp [see playback forum] work a thousand times better) to when you can FIRST notice it coming out of synch. take note of how long it takes to come out of synch and re-align the music every x minutes. check the computer recording forum, there is many posts on this (I believe).

from my experience it's hit or miss.  easier to sink if the show is a long show

mix it track by track and you should be fine.  If there's some really long songs (10 mins or more) you may have to get more detailed, otherwise you should be fine.  I've done a few MD + JB3 post mixes, and they've been fine as long as I go track by track.  When lining the full show original .wavs up, they usually fall out of sync noticeably after 18-20 mins in my experiences.
