minidisc transfer/recovery
« on: August 02, 2012, 12:17:21 PM »
I recently came across some MD's that I didn't know I actually still had. Unfortunately, I have no idea what's on them, nor do I own a MD player anymore.  Is there anyone who would be willing to transfer them for me? Preferably someone with a standalone that can clone the TOC, as I'm not even sure if they'll play correctly. I remember having a MD that fucked up and wouldn't recognize the audio on it, no idea if it's one of these or not.

not sure what you mean by cloning the TOC?

extracting data other than the audio out of the S/P DIF stream?

No, it refers to cloning the TOC from one MD to an MD with a corrupt TOC, so you can access whatever's on it.

I can also help transfer MD's since I have a Sony unit with an optical out which runs into my PC.

What's the point on doing 24/96 with a recording that's lossy? Just being curious :)

By the way... I would be up to do the transfers as well, but I?m Spain-based so I think it would be a bigger hassle :P

If you do lossy on top of lossy, you lose more. Like taking a grainy photo of a grainy photo.

With lossless, you won't improve the original recording, but you won't further degrade it.

The higher sampling rate is beneficial when doing post-processing work.
