Help upload/naming flac files etc
« on: September 08, 2012, 02:25:41 AM »
I would like to learn how to upload flac files to archive.org. I have created an account and have downloaded CDwave and THL. I have tested them to become familiar. I am a total noob when it comes to understanding proper naming and providing all the show/source information.

I am at a point where I need to determine how I am going to name and archive files once and for all. PLEASE HELP. I have 300+ vinyl records that I am starting to transfer and a few hundred DAT tapes and a few hundred CDs. I have used mediamonkey a little for file naming the few records I transferred, but it is not the same that live uploads require. I would like to create a standardized naming format so all the different sources can be in the same library.

Tomorrow I am recording Little Feat and need to figure out how to correctly upload it to archive.org

My current idea of a workflow process is to 1st track the show in CDwave. 2nd encode to THL (and if the end users wants 16 bit then I would convert the 24/48 files to 16bit db poweramp before encoding with THL)

However, I now realized I need to properly name these file, but when should I do that in the process?? I guess it would be after encoding because here http://wiki.etree.org/index.php?page=NamingStandards they talk about ending the file name with .flac16 or .flac24 this is where I am confused. In the link above they explain how to name the files, but I would like to know how to do this efficiently. How and when do I create the flac fingerprint? Do you just ignore naming the tracks till after encoding? Is naming the files different than tagging?

I would greatly appreciate your feedback on your workflow process and any ideas on how I should organize my collection as I begin to transfer. Thanks for your time.

I've uploaded a lot of shows to the LMA

Just name them something like this:

littlefeat2012-09-12t01
littlefeat2012-09-12t02
littlefeat2012-09-12t03

etc.  The flac16 or flac24 can be added to the show identifier, doesn't need to be on each file.

What I do is name my untracked file "littlefeat2012-09-12t" and then when you split the tracks it automatically numbers them "01". "02", etc.   Do the fingerprints after you FLAC the WAVs.

I would like to add that if dithering down from 24 to 16 bit it is best imho to use a software that encompasses MBIT+
Mics: CA-14 (o,c,o)
Remote Power: CA-9100 pre-amp, CA-UBB battery box
Recorders: Sony PCM-M10, Tascam DR-2d
Cable/s: custom 6" GAKables Mini Starquad
Batteries: Maha 9.6V Imedion, Maha Powerex 2700 mAh
Chargers: Maha MH-C9000, MAHA MH-C490F 9 Volt

I'm done seeding 16bit - I seed or upload only 24bit - archive is nice in that you can have it create the derivatives automatically
mp3 and ogg.  I know these files may not sound as nice as ones dirived from a 16bit flac but hey it's lossy
Music can at the least least explain you and at the most expand you
