M-10 Files Corrupted?!?
« on: November 23, 2012, 12:49:43 PM »
I just hooked my M-10 up to the computer via usb

At first the card wouldn't be recognized at all.

I retried it and the card was recognized but the files are all symbols and won't open

Then I tred a card reader that is showing the same results

also, the M-10 is reading 00/00 files

am i screwed?

I had some older files on there from last recordings and everything was fine until i recorded again.

any help?

Might be a stupid question, but did you format the card in the M10 before you used it, or did you just plug it in and go?

The M10 can be very finnicky with how the MicroSD card is inserted; that said, try taking it out and re-seating the card in the deck.  I don't know if you have a laptop and if it has a card reader but you might want to give that a spin.

And yes, ALWAYS... ALWAYS... ALWAYS format your card in the deck the first time you go to use it (and periodically from time to time) to save yourself from this headache.

Aren't the recordings on the internal flash of the M10?

On the back of the PCM-M10, next to the slot, is a diagram of how the card is inserted.  The card will go into the slot other ways--and will not be read. I did this as a n00b, and then panicked that the PCM-M10 wasn't reading the card. You'd think you were putting it in upside-down and backwards--but that's how it goes in.

I found that inserting the card is not enough.  You need MENU>MEMORY>select MEMORY CARD, otherwise it defaults to internal memory. It won't show the memory card icon on the display until I do that.   Obvious?  Perhaps.

Not if you indicated to use the inserted microSD card.  I rarely use the internal memory since it is easier to transfer the recordings off the card.

the card was used for over 100 recordings with ZERO problems, ever.

it was NEVER removed from the 1st time it was put in the deck. the card was definitely in the correct way.

i formatted probably every 10 sets or so

***there are files on the card. but, they are corrupted. CAN THIS BE FIXED***

EDIT: i also tried the card in a card reader getting the same results with the same corrupted files.

the file names are symbols of the like i've never seen before  ???

totally weird
