Topic: Naiant X-R Mic

So, I bought a pair of Naiant's X-R mics with the Omni capsules. I got the remote amplifier option.

Sounds great! I compared it to a set of Shures KSM141s that I have, and put both in omni setting. Soundwise, they both sounded good, but sounded better when combined together, they seem to complement each other..

But anyway, here are some short samples of a trumpet, and separately, a harp. [Only X-R]

additionally, since i had the ksm141s and X-Rs setup first, but then shifted to a slightly different setup, here is a sample where the trumpet plays something captured by both ksm and X-rs.

Yes, jon also has the transformer output version for those who require more.. the remote amplifier option is akin to the tranformerless version. Also, these were going straight into my OCM R44 which I obtained from Ted awhile ago. =D

Thanks for the samples. Sure sounds good!  Captures the room sound nicely on the trumpets. What was the location/spacing of the mics, and if possible can we see some pics of yer setup?

I understand the X-R uses RCA to connect to the mic amp but does it also use RCA to connect to your R44 or XLR?

The remote X-R is terminated with a PFA I believe with a rca to connect to the capsule:

and it is possible to get an extension cable to connect between the regular amplifiers and the capules.

Lots of options for $29/capsule and ~$79/amp.!

jibooer is right. I had obtained the remote amplifier option because I was thinking of using them as outriggers, but not gotten round to setting them up that way yet. Fortunately, I took some pictures!

The Mics Harp is the setup I used for the Harp and the Intrada Trumpet recording. The other pictures with the Shures and the Naiant are the ones I used for the Brandt. Hope this helps!

This was recorded in Seully Hall of the Boston Conservatory. It has good acoustics. I recorded straight into my R44 with the remote amplifier which terminates into XLRs..

Much obliged. Certainly gives us a good idea of the relative size compared to the Shures, the spacing you used, and also proves that the sounds I heard in the waveform are representative of the actual room.

Until I find a better solution, that will be my go-to for the moment. =D

Actually the tape used is Gaff tape, but they were used to keep the mic screw things on the holder from shaking when recording, and holding the X-Rs. I need to find an elegant solution, but I think I am working it out nicely. =)
