What is this plugin for and do
This free plugin, is not restricted to Schoeps capsules. It allows you to mix the output of two coincidentally-aligned mics - an omni and a Fig-8 - to generate a new intermediate pattern. Moreover, one can chose a different pattern for each of three frequency bands (e.g omni pattern from 50 - 400 Hz, cardioid from 400 - 2000Hz etc.)
A possible application might be using 4 mics to run an AB array, spaced say 20 - 30cm. The "Ä" mic is an omni/Fig-8 pair (e.g. Schoeps MK2s/ MK8), and likewise for the "B"mic(s). The 4 separate mic signals are fed to your DAW and the VST plug does the rest, with a graphical feedback. Thus one can adust the imaging perspective during the course of a concert, perhaps to accentuate the bass, or reduce the hall reverberation or to bring a soloist closer at a dramatic point. In a sense, it's like having the freedom to let the array morph between AB omni, Faulkner spaced Fig-8 array etc. etc - but also the possibility to have such changes frequency-dependent. Additionally, you could employ the plug to tailor-make a new omni pattern with some high frequency beaming - to make it more suited for classic Decca Tree purposes?
