Nice! So what would be an application that would call for these adapters?

One thing that comes to mind, is the smaller foot print they would create while running the bodies vertical and the caps horizontal. This would allow them to fit under an umbrella better when festival taping. I could also see an advantage using them with figure 8 caps if they were available for the sms2000's. Hmmmm.... maybe they are being released next?   :D

Bingo, for us, that's the big one right there. You can also achieve tighter spacing with bigger angles and avoid stacking the bodies (point the bodies straight forward and angle the caps outward).

Also, if you used RA stubbies (that were custom made to exit a certain direction), you could use the bodies in Rycote's Stereo Suspension mount or the Schoeps AMS22 and run them that way (ala 2 kwonbars stacked). Useful if you want to cut down to just one shockmount.

depends on how they are used, but it's quite possible.

I think the better use would be to run a pair with the bodies perpendicular to the ground one above the other in an m/s shock mount.
Recording:
Capsules: Schoeps mk41v (x2), mk22 (x2), mk3 (x2), mk21 & mk8
Cables: 2x nbob KCY, 1 pair nbob actives, GAKables 10' & 20' 6-channel snakes, Darktrain 2 & 4 channel KCY and mini xlr extensions:
Preamps:    Schoeps VMS 02iub, Naiant IPA, Sound Devices Mixpre6 I
Recorders: Sound Devices Mixpre6 I, Sony PCM m10

Home Playback: Mac Mini> Mytek Brooklyn+> McIntosh MC162> Eminent Tech LFT-16; Musical Fidelity xCan v2> Hifiman HE-4XX / Beyerdynamic DT880

Office Playback: iMac> Grace m903> AKG k701 / Hifiman HE-400

I almost referenced the MS mount piece, but figured it would be easier to specify the two parts in case people wanted a visual:

no worries. What I think is rather interesting is we've had this sort of possibility for ages with the AKG 4xx line, yet I don't recall seeing anyone ever do it.
