9vdc to 5vdc

I have a 9v battery, you know, one of those power supplies for portable dvd players. I like it. I just but a tascam recorder that takes 5vdc. Is there an easy way to convert or step down the voltage from 9vdc to 5vdc?

No not really. Just break down and buy the correct one its cheaper then buying a new recorder because the voltage or polarity was not correct.

They are not expensive

I believe there is two different ones based on what tascam recorder you have. You can find the info in your user manual.

Your better off using a 5v USB battery pack and sell the DVD battery in the yard sale.  There are tons of options out there...

I used to run a JB3 off a 9V dvd battery by using a LM7805 w/ a tiny heat sink attached to it.  It got pretty warm but not too hot.  Total cost was less than $5.

That looks like a good possibility! Is it easy to tell which pin is which?

And, to be more specific, I'm wanting to run a Tasacam DR100 mkii. My 9v battery is 5400 mah. Any guesstimates of how much run time I may get?

I would think you'd get a pretty long run time running a DR100 but I can't say for sure exactly.

I dunno what a JB3 draws but the tascam has a max draw od 5.5W and I am pretty sure the chip cited cannot handle that kind of draw.  I tried to power a USBPre2 that way and it fell on its face.  Plenty of voltage but no amperage
