problem with sp-tfb-2
« on: January 29, 2013, 10:40:36 PM »
Hi all! I introduce myself, I'm Matías Gómez from Cordoba, Argentina! I've been reading (and learning) a lot in these last days (as a guest) in this forum! you are great! I tell you that I'm blind, and I really enjoy from an early recordings... live concerts, rehearsals (I play the drums), ETC... my camera is my recorder (Zoom H2 and Zoom H2N) but in recent times I have been interested in a binaural microphones ... well, for not so long affair ... in 2011 bought the SP-TFB-2 sound proffesionals, but I only lasted 3 weeks! why? it began to peel the ... slip coating the capsules, also one of the wires out ... I have no idea if I could repair them or not ... Well, last year I bought the MS-TFB-2 ... and what do you think? I thought the same thing! at 9 days began to get out again ... then maybe it is dirtied by dust ... or something, stopped working the left mic ... I tried to clean it, but ... not hear! I contacted Chris from sound proffesionals and he offered me the opportunity to send in for repair, but I do not know if I will be the same ... I'll be doing something wrong? if I buy a wind screens might work? Yes, I have a hard time wearing them the right way ... had to accommodate them all the time! be for this? I've also heard some examples of the mm-bms-8 ... or something like that, but in my opinion, they sound as if the sound come up all the time! ie ... excellent surround sound, but a microphone sound capture vertical, top to bottom? another thing ... I am also interested in the SP-BMC-12, but I'm not buying (99.99 usd shipping is much more money in my country) and I would not spend so much to not work ... Also I have to consider how much it would cost to send them to U.S, and if they have to change the capsules ... I agree maybe buy some new ... and if ... the question is which? I need your help!

I've been fortunate with my SP-TFB-2 set, but I've always felt they were a bit delicate. I've tried to avoid applying force to the wires, especially.

However, I've mostly retired my set in favor of a Naiant X-X pair. They won't fit in-ear, but I can still get a very good approximation of binaural by clipping them to a baseball cap or my eyeglass frames, with the capsules facing forward. The X-X pair has audibly less self-noise.

I'm still keeping the SP-TFB-2 set for situations where I need to be extra inconspicuous and want to keep equipment to a minimum, since my X-X set has XLR connectors, requiring me to add my preamp.

Welcome to taperssection, and kiss your wallet goodbye!
