clandestine advice
« on: February 01, 2013, 03:17:09 PM »
OK so the main band I have been taping since 1997 has taper friendly members but a record company that is less open minded.
I have my mk41s and a ton of great advice from this board (I just now donated after mooching blindly at the info-tit for a year plus, just never got around to it, DOH).
Nick and Followinbob are sending me cables soon and Jon has my order for a tinybox.
I realize there is probably a better option than sticking the mic bodies inside the sweatband of my Carhardt ball cap on either side of my head, like I did with my Core Sound mics for the last umpteen years.
I read vague references to a hat brand name I wore in the eighties when I had on parachuite pants and had a giant blue safety pin on the lapel of a giant tweed jacket from a yardsale, I can't imagine this is the chapue du jour these days (failed french that year too).
Also is there some cool DIY or board sourced mount for these situations?
If it makes a difference I am generally front row of a balcony section in large arenas, where I can film as well, so 100'+ from huge hanging PA cabs.
All PMs appreciated.
Dave

This is just about HoF worthy in terms of  >:D info requests.

Someone hook this man up with a gay french hat recommendation. Pronto  :D

If I have to wear a beret, I'll just stop listening to music instead. >:D

Gotta have the bottle of wine and baguette.  Actually the baguette might make a decent stealth mount, no?

wow, I almost owe you a drink :)

Thanks guys and gals for the PMs, I thought I might know everything except a model, but I got a little more good advice as well.
Even after 100+ shows there are still a few new ideas.

be sure to get the "duckbill" beret.  more room.

I met up with a fellow taper for a show in Colorado awhile back (im an Ohio guy) and ol Billy had a beret, I couldn't stop laughing, I had to go to another entrance, or I'm sure I would have given him away. He took in a set of mics, a pre, 2 dat decks, a wireless decoder, cables etc. After the show I asked if he wanted to compare tapes and my rig was worn so ninjaesque he didn't realize I was taping stnading next to him for 2.5 hours :)

I prefer the ghillie suit for clandestine activities.

I'm pretty sure the ghillie suit might raise an eyebrow even from the dullest of event security :)

fat 40 year old guy in the parachute pants, i'm too nice to make anyone look at that :)

The rig is complete and the counter-surveillance mounting apparatus is secure.
Let the dark archival arts commence!!!!
pics by PM - I am really giddy with this solution :) >:D >:D
