Topic: Need a Mic Stand Upgrade

I have been using a standard stage mic stand for years and have a T bar that fits it.  It only gets about 7 ft high and is a little flimsy.  I seem to wear em out pretty fast.  Anyway...I need a new mic stand that's a little more sturdy and raises up a tad higher.  I dont wanna spend a shitload of money.  Need recommendations on a decent stand.....

This has treated me pretty well.  Its a little flimsy if you get it full extended but hasn't caused me any trouble so far.  Last night we had 4 sets of (active) mics on it at about 9' feet up no problem.

This is the one I've been using, has served me well so far. 12' and I almost always run it fully extended. Pretty solid and even fully extended, I don't think it's ever come close to being knocked over and it's taken some fair shots. Base is adjustable to just about any footprint, of couse the smaller the base, the less stable it's going to be. Not sure what your price range is, it's $85 and B&H right now:

Not positive, but I would assume not.  Does it have a 5/8" screw?  You most likely need an adapter.  The one linked below should work.

Not positive, but I would assume not.  Does it have a 5/8" screw?  You most likely need an adapter.  The one linked below should work.

I ordered that stand and the guy told me my Tbar would fit the stand.  Well, it dosnt ;/  I dont know what the measurements are.  That one you linked *looks* right ?  Is there a local place like radio shack or somewhere that carries that stuff I can walk in with stuff in hand so i can be sure to get the right one?  Are there other or better mounting options for my CA14s?

Bummer.  I'm not sure of many places that carry those kind of adapters besides specialty photo stores.  You can try a specialty screw/bolt shop if you have one of those around.  Do you know what kind of T-bar you have?  Is it something like this:  http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/286149-REG/AKG_KM235_1_KM235_1_Stereo_Microphone_Bar.html

As far as CA-14s someone else will probably know better than me.  I ran CA14s taped to a t-bar for a while but there are certainly better solutions.  They're so small that any number of DIY mounts work pretty easily.

• 1/4"-20 female | 5/8"-27 male thread adapter (not always easy to find as a single piece)
• 1/4"-20 female | 3/8"-16 male thread adapter + 3/8"-16 female | 5/8"-27 male thread adapter (sold together at B&H)
  
• But I think the best solution, although a bit more expensive, is a Manfrott Rapid Adapter with 3/8"-16 male tip + 3/8"-16 female | 5/8"-27 male thread adapter (the price is right on the one linked by alchasey, but I happen to prefer a taller profile like this one for some uses).  The rapid adapter makes it really easy to get mics on and off the stand very quickly, which I like to do after the show and everyone's mulling about, trying to push past my gear, etc.

Nope.  If you have the stand to which I linked in my post and quoted the specs (5/8"-male stud with 1/4"-20 male tip), then you need one of the options I posted previously.  The thread adapter above is 5/8"-female | 3/8"-male, so not only are the male / female parts reversed, but you have no way to attach it to the 1/4"-20 male tip on the stand.

You'd still need the 1/4"-20 female | 3/8"-16 male adapter, which I can't find on the GC site.
