Studio project C4 mics
« on: June 19, 2013, 08:25:30 AM »
Hi,

I was curious as to whether anyone had any experience with these mics. They look beautiful and have great feature including hypercard, card, and omni heads. Anyone have an opinion on them?

Anyone have any they would be interested in selling as well?

Thank you

I used them for a period of time and always thought they produced nice recordings.  I have since moved on but would not hesitate to use them again and they can be had for a nice price too!

I taped with a kid at summer camp last month that ran spc4>tinybox(OT)>m10 and his recordings sound pretty damn good. Search the sts9 show from 5/24 and listen to the 3 diff sources. My mk41>lb(OT)>m10 tonedeaf s mk4>psp2>ad2k and kids spc4>tb(OT)>m10 and see if you like what you hear ;)

I hate to be too much of a homer, but every time I see a thread about mics in this general price range, I feel like I should give a recommendation for the Nak 300s and their clones. Truly great mics for the price, typically under $200.

I always forget about those. The naps are good mics too, e specially the lower profile nak 300 "actives" ;)

Here's that spc4>tinybox(OT)>m10 recording. You can compare it to the other two sources on the LMA ;)

Where can you find the naks? Or buy them

Ebay or the Yard Sale, I'd say.

Your best bet is in the ts.com yard sale. What's your TOP priority, mics or a preamp?

It's by far the preamp, by very far. But I'm just snooping around for mics at some point, when I get money saved up enough. I will research for a long time before I buy and like to have it well formulated. I just like everyone's opinion.

Are they produced new still?

Not to my knowledge. I don't think they've been made for YEARS. They can only be found used in the yard sale or rarely on eBay ;)

like I said in our PM discussions, I'd get a Naiant preamp for your budget. You will be happy with that for a LONG TIME? He'll, I sold my $1,100.00 lemosax preamp and kept my Naiant littleBox with output transformers. I think it's the perfect match for schoeps. In fact, I like it so much, I just bought a 2nd kcy littleBox so I can run at two diff stages at festies ;)

Isn't the problem with the Naks finding batteries these days?
If you have a problem relating to the Live Music Archive (http://www.archive.org/details/etree) please send an e-mail to us admins at LMA(AT)archive(DOT)org or post in the LMA thread here and we'll get on it.

Not really. I walk into Rat Shack, give them the model number and they ship them to my house for free. They're ~$9 a piece, but last for about two years.

No. In fact mine might be older than I am ;D
