mk012 problem
« on: March 29, 2004, 09:35:54 PM »
I bought a pair of of ebay last summer. well long story short I kep buying and selling my gear fatser than I could tape so I never even used the mic's well I plugged into the Ua-5 the other day and Now I get very little/no signal out of one of um, Is there something i might be missing or is there a way to test it . Or anyone have any ideas of what may cause this. should I take the thing apart and see if anything has become loose or the solder broke ?

Im kinda at a lost of what to do. Reall a big bummer as I was hoping to tape a buddy's band this weekend.

Thank's In advance
Nick

check the solder 2nd but i would flip the caps around and see if it is the body or the cap.  the mk012's have button connection thingy that could cause problems if the cap isn't all the way seated or cross threaded.

I tried swapping the cap's that's what got me to thinking the body was bad, as I have a bunch of braqndnew shit so I started testing everything . and the only thing that didnt work was the one mic. all other cable and so forth were tested using the other mic,

And Big thank's to Blake for the Ts loaner mic offer. That is a great idea for the around these parts.

Another ? I bought 20' Mogami cable's and I noticed the other day on the Ua-5 that there is a Hi-z/Low-z
how do i find this?

Hi-Z is for things such as guitars.  You want Lo-Z.

check and see if all the screws are still in place in the body.  I had a similar problem awile back.  what happened, since the screws screw in not out, one of them fell into the actual body and became lodged between some circuitry.   if it looks like you are missing a screw i'd say take it apart and check it out

Switch channels(from right to left or vise versa) on the UA-5 to make sure the phantom power is working correctly.
When cleaning out her attic, Grace found several bootleg recordings her mother had made while traveling around the world with the Grateful Dead. Grace is not permitted to sell these bootleg recordings on eBay.
