Mount or clamp to attach PCM-M10 to mic stand?
« on: August 16, 2013, 01:29:30 PM »
Hi, I just ordered this Ravelli stand (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003TM600U/ref=pe_175190_21431760_M3T1_ST1_dp_1) and was wondering if anyone has a good idea of what I could use to attach a PCM-M10 to it. I'll be running my CSB's on it when I'm not stealthing and it would be nice to attach the recorder to the stand rather than just dangle by the cable.

Thanks in advance, Dan

I see nothing at this link which addresses the OP's question. What am I missing?

You right - I cut and pated the wrong link. I intended to offer this - just because it looks pretty cool.

and yes the m10 comes with a thread built in to the back.

Sorry guess I should have been more clear. I'll be attaching the mics to the top of the stand and hopefully flying them 8-10'. I'm trying to figure out how to attach the recorder (and battery box for that matter) to the stand about 5' up. I saw a taper in Asheville a few weeks ago that had something clamped to his stand to hold a camera, but I haven't had a lot of luck looking on line. Doesn't have to be a shock mount, just something to secure the recorder to the stand.

I have the same stand - I mounted my PCM-M10 to it using a cheap handlebar camera mount from eBay.  Pics of my setup as well as a link to the clamp here:
http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=163558.0;topicseen

I wouldn't use this clamp to mount anything heavier than the M10, but it's perfect for this task.  Once you fiddle with it a bit you can get it to clamp pretty tight.  If you want something stronger, there are many great threads here on "serious" clamps.

FYI, the finish on the Ravelli stand scratches VERY easily.  I would wrap it with tape where you plan to clamp anything.  I learned this the hard way after finding the tensioning bolt that runs through the inside of this clamp scratched the paint pretty good.  Also, plan to hotglue the feet to keep them from falling out, as many others have had to to according to reviews.  These are minor annoyances though, and I feel like they are balanced out by the handy reversible stud and overall good value.

As far as battery box, I sit the heavies part (the battery) on top of the clamp and then velcro wrap in place.
I am hitting my head against the walls, but the walls are giving way.

Wow Voltronic, that's exactly what I want to do! I mean exactly!! That's a sweet setup. And the price is right on that clamp too. Thanks for the info and link. I might try the ruler thing too. I was thinking about using a nerf ball as a poor man's Jecklin disk, that ruler should slide right through

That's the same clamp linked in my post, but you can find it much cheaper.  It's sold on eBay under various names for various prices.  There are many under 10 bucks including shipping, just search for "handlebar camera mount".  These are made in China and many of them ship directly from Hong Kong like mine did.  Here's 3 I just found for under $7 each:

I made this for holding 2 decks on stand.
I used these main parts with some threaded rod and misc. fittings.
In the center I added a 5/8" 27 threaded nipple to attach the umbrella.

I just hang an old CD player case from the stand and secure it so it won't go anywhere. That way it's not bumped as hard as the stand if that happens.

i use one of these if i ever do that, and than any clamp with a 5/8 conector will work, like a windtech clamp.
