So, I'm looking for something to record relatively quiet, small ensembles in intimate settings (small recital halls, small-ish churches, even some parlors/living rooms). No sound reinforcement, decently close to the performers, and no need for stealth. I'm looking for something to go into an M10 (mini jack, PIP but no phantom) and I was hoping to keep them in the less than $250 range.
I was thinking possibly a set of CA-11s (cardioid), which I would setup in XY, but would give me the option of setting up in ORTF if I wanted. Any DIY solutions for mounts for that would be appreciated. Or, I could get one of the AT stereo mics (AT822 or AT825), which sell used on ebay in my price range, would be battery-powered, and are set up XY. I've used AT822s for other recording purposes and like the sound, but I'd be interested to hear thoughts on these two options, or any others. The CAs would be enough under budget I'd consider getting the omni caps for greater flexibility or maybe an external pre or something, but for the sake of comparison just compare the mics straight-up.
Thanks!
