Franken TEAC ME-80: In need of a repairman
« on: September 26, 2014, 11:05:16 AM »
I'm looking for suggestions on how to go about getting a loose wire re-soldered in one of my modded TEAC ME-80 mics. So, I was having a a contact issue where I had to tape the cable way over at the perfect location in my right channel or it would cut out - I tried to fix it myself the night before Catskill Chill Music Festival a couple of weekends ago, and of course I was in a rush, so I ended up pulling a wire and at this point I think it needs to be fixed professionally (I ran my DR100mkII almost the entire weekend with the internal cardioids at the Club Chill stage and got some pretty good recordings... I'll make a post in kickdown central once they're all up). I contacted the engineer who repaired my McIntosh C-20 pre-amp, and he said he could do it - but mics are not something he typically works on and it would be the standard mininmum rate + parts (I don't think there will be any parts besides a bead of solder...). His minimum is around the maximum I would like to pay to get these mics back up-to-snuff... so here I am.

Are there any TSers out there who would be able to get these mics back to working order? Or can anyone recommend an affordable, reliable place where I could send them? Any help is appreciated - I'm in Connecticut, but will ship wherever.

Alternatively, if anyone has any details on their assembly- ie. internal pictures and a wiring schematic, then I might be able to resolder myself as a last resort.

Thanks for the help!
