Topic: Removing Bass from a Recording

I'm still a bit of a newbie.  Only taped about 15 or so shows.  I have an issue with my recordings being a little on the bassy side.  I was wondering if there is a way I can filter it out a little.  I'm using Soundforge for my conversion.

Any help is appreciated.

I believe SF has a bass rolloff function... Been a while since I've used that program but I've used it in v4 & 5.

-6db shelf (or maybe up to -12db if its REALLY bass heavy) from 20-80Hz, sloping up to flat by 120Hz.  there should be a graphic EQ in Sound Forge somewhere.

BASS is prmoinent in the PA's around the 80-90 hz.
try a HIGH-PASS filter and EXPERIMENT with it. Try different settings and go with the one that feels best to you.

Any other software recommendations? Any shareware or freeware apps out there that can help with this? PC, Mac, or Linux...?

I'm looking to do the same thing to a recording. The venue I recently recorded at (my first) was quite boomy, but if I set equalizer settings to tone down the bass (set closer to an acoustic performance or boost treble), it sounds pretty good during playback. Any suggestions?

Lately I've been using the parametric EQ in CEP. By isolating the frequency where the bass is (its usually more just loud resonant bass rather than the tones themselves) I've been scooping the unwanted bass and leaving more of the good stuff (I personally find it working better than the graphic EQ) If theres a similar function give it a go.
