Recorders that link to new digital boards

You have quite a few options with that board.  The FireWire (being avid) is only usable with ProTools, but there are two track analog and aes outs (I think it said analog is TRS).  Also whatever extra XLR outs he might have, ehich should be a few unless he's running monitor mixes for like everybody or a bunch of outboard stuff.  16 outs is a lot

This illustrates what I'm trying to say.  These are all two analog or digital outputs on these older boards.

When behringer released the xr18, you can output 18 channels via USB into a $200 HP stream PC running reaper.  18 tracks into a $200 PC.

Depending on the signal routing, you might get two of the same sum to stereo two track?

And with DigiGal's AES>SPDIF cable, several other decks will take an AES signal too!

If the settings are correct in a Behringer x32, you can record directly to a thumbdrive. Best practice is to get the sound person to set the recorder settings in their main template, so it is turned on for every band. Frustrating to have the sound person be so kind as to set it up for the opening act, then upon recalling the "scene" for the main band, that setting gets trashed!!?!?!

Another fun one is the Allen & Heath QU-16, QU-24, QU-32 series. The manual claims that you need an actual hard drive to record multi-track but at the Rockbar Theatre in San Jose, I successfully got 18 total tracks on a 32GB thumbdrive for Dread Zeppelin! (16 channels of stage feeds plus L-R stereo)
