Nak cm300 - circuit board refresh
« on: December 07, 2015, 04:43:44 PM »
I found web page about Nakamichi cm300 circuit board refresh- http://datsunzgarage.com/nak/. Unfortunately I cannot find contact to the author. I wonder if it really helps to reduce mic noise (for example, when recording acoustic instruments). Has anybody experience with this kind of modifications?

I have friend who is able to modify it. He is in Ireland now but he is returning in two or three months. We will try this modification and i will send results. Has anybody idea how simply compare mic noise before and after modification?

Most of what he writes there, especially about resistor noise, is facepalm.

It's a nice hobbiest write-up with good pictures, but I agree, it's littered with audio myths and subjective fallacies. LoL at paying $1 per resistor. Let's send this guy over to Percy Audio so he can get fleeced some more. He should really be using bulk foil resistors and maybe even consider bypassing that Elna with a $100 teflon cap. Would make a huge difference!  ::)

To my ears Silmics provide an open, dynamically textured sound...very musical. Interestingly I find the Silmic can sound slightly dull at first, but after several days of use they suddenly open up; one of the few times I've heard an audible break-in of a board component. Lower-quality caps can have a brighter sound which is misleading.

This just makes me angry.
