Field Powering PSP-2?

I just scored one.   

Any tips on remote power?  I have DVD batteries and a Naztech15000. 

What is the input voltage range ?

5v to 9v external.

Not sure I trust the Naztech now. 

I just discovered that it introduced noise onto 2 days worth of CCM4 > Sonosax recordings while powering the Sax.

How can DC voltage cause noise? Are you sure it's not the Sonosax? You said it was fine at 12v?!

I've always used an external 9v DVD battery to power mine.

I've never seen it before either.  I would say that it might be the Sax as it ran fine on day 3 with internals but I ran it at 12v for Jeff Austin last week and it was fine.

The PSP2 is very easy to power! They take 5V, 500 mA, so it is compatible with these cell phone charger batteries that are ubiquitous. You need a USB > plug cable, and you can go to Radioshack to get an adaptaplug cable with the appropriate plug.

I usually put in the 6 AA batteries, then plug in the external. I've never had a situation where I ran out of the external, but in case I do, it will switch to the internals.

A lot of the dc power solutions use voltage regulators to adjust their cells' native voltage to the required output voltage -- dc voltage regulators can create noise.  This is why the Oade M148 uses 8x 6volt SLAs in series to create a 48volt powersource to provide clean phantom power.

if you can find em, grab em...  it gets harder every day though.  9v DVD batteries are still my favorite battery for anything that needs 9v worth of power.

I love the DVD batteries and I have 5 of them still going strong.  I have used them to power both my R-44 and the V3 for YEARS.

Now that I know the PSP-2 runs on 5v I will see if I can find a USB to RS Adaptaplug for the PSP-2.  That way I can power the PSP-2 from the 5v USB and the Sonosax from the 12v DC out.  I giggle little at the potential for a single battery option for both pres.

Are you sure that it only takes 500mA?  I just made a 5v USB cable using adaptaplug tip M, - on ring and + on tip.  I tested it with my multimeter and got 5v clean.  However it won't power up the PSP-2.  If I use the M tip and a 9v DVD battery it fires up fine.

I'm using the USB port on top of the Naztech 15000.

So is the PSP2 field powerable with a 5v USB battery? So WHEN I finally grab a PSP2[lol!], I can easily power both the PSP2 & 70D with the same 5v USB batteries? Talk about super easy powering solution!

Yeah, powering two things from one battery is awesome! I used to power both my DMIC20/D8, and then V3/D8 from a BP-50, and V3/JB3 from a bigger 12v SLA. Can't beat that kind of simplicity, as long as the batteries are decent and you have a couple of backups Like I said above, I'd love to own a PSP2 one of these days, and its great to know that I can easily power it with some 5v USB batts BTW, I'm always willing to trade my VMS02IB for a working PSP2
