Never seen this before...
« on: May 31, 2017, 08:49:21 PM »
Hello fellow tapers,

I've been recording live shows for more than 10 years and have never seen a frequency analysis like this.  Any ideas?  This was recorded using Audio Technica SP-CMC-2 Cardioid Mics through an SP-SPSB-11 Battery Box with Bass Rolloff set at 96 Hz into a Sony PCM-M10 and was recorded in 96 MHZ/24-Bit Stereo with the limiter on and Low Pass Filter off.

Apologies, as I neglected to approve the attachment at the same time as the post.

What do you find unusual about the frequency analysis?

It's been a while since I've recorded loud, amplified rock-type music and done a frequency analysis on my live recordings, but my vague recollection is that I commonly had a stronger response in lower frequencies v. higher frequencies.

Also, keep in mind it looks like the frequency analysis plot is showing frequency in a logarithmic view.  Try toggling to a linear view and see if it more closely aligns with your expectations.

I'm seeing that there is no music above the middle of the frequency range, and so you may as well record at 44.1 or 48kHz.

What are the unit ranges on both axes? What kHz is the frequency range up to?

What did you do differently?
Gear?
Technique?
Software?

Too many unmentioned variables to offer insight.
