battery and cable to "split" power
« on: July 14, 2019, 02:11:28 PM »
Hi all,

I would like to power a deck and a preamp with ONE battery, and hopefully ONE cable that splits to plug each device (preamp and deck).

The preamp runs on 6 AA batteries (9v), and the deck runs on 6 AA batteries (PMD-661) (6v, but runs on 5 V battery that would charge an iPhone).

Any advice appreciated, thanks in advance!

There are several battery solutions that will put out 9V on one port and 5V on another.

Using a split cable as you describe is impossible without making something with an inline voltage regulator which would be a total pain. You just need to use two appropriate cables from the right battery with two outputs.

There are distribution boxes (Audioroot ) makes a few but you would need to regulate the power to the lower voltage device. an inline voltage regulator.

Try one of these. Has 12v 9v and USB 5v ports. Runs a mixpre 3 longer than I've ever needed. Very helpful, thank you. So Two cables would come out of this, one to power preamp, and the other to power recorder?
Who have you used to make power cables?

Thanks again!

Yep 2 separate cables. I make my own but there are others here that do it as a side gig and can help you with that. If you can figure out the jack size, you may be able to find it online.
