How does this recorder compare to the Roland R-05? I'm looking for something that won't/is less likely to set off metal detectors. I heard the settings for loud gigs can be complicated and that the pre-amps aren't as good. What do you guys think? Cheers!

My A10 hasn't set off detectors the few times I've brought it through one. Settings for loud gigs are no more complicated than for any other recorder (you, uh, turn the gain down) and no complaints about the preamps. And bluetooth control from your phone is indeed a game changer.

Looks from your sig like you have external mics, but if you would ever use the internal mics, I have found that the correct setting for amplified sound is Limiter ON, record level 6.
No higher or lower than 6. If it's too loud, move away from the source.

Funny enough, I rarely use my A10 with Line In. It's almost always my backup and/or a half-assed shirt pocket recording.

Big fan of the A10 for low profile recording. I use mine with a baby nbox on audio in/line in and it sounds great. The app is incredibly convenient to use as well. I just posted a Primus recording in kickdown where it was used.

I'm always afraid of hitting the STOP button on the various control apps.

My latest move for the A10 is to go to the tab where you choose options, instead of the main screen, before I swipe away from the app.
Just in case!

I don't swipe away from the app — I press the power button to close the phone entirely.

If you don't close the app by swiping away on the iPhone, the app opens up next time you unlock the phone.
I must admit that I sometimes use other apps during events.
Messages, camera, dB meter, spectrum analyzer, web browser....

This is also one reason why I got an iPhone SE, so I can still have the button for closing apps rather than having to touch the screen and risk clicking on things I don't want to.

That feature suddenly makes a hell of a lot of sense to me!

The one time i took my A10 to a show and had to pass through metal detectors, i just took it out of my pocket with my phone, keys, wallet and set it down.
No problems encountered in my experience.

The A10 has 1-30 levels for manual recording.

I am trying to determine the value in dB for each step.

My guess is 1 dB.

I am aware, that I can do a couple of tests to find the answer, but if anyone already knows it, I can skip the testing

Best wishes perjak

The noise floor on my A10 is just getting unbearable. On my recordings, the digital hiss is very audible and it's getting quite annoying. Whenever I EQ or even just amplify/normalize my audio, it's all you can hear. It begins to sound like a DAT recording. Granted I have not cleaned the port on this thing in the three years that I've had it, so... could that be the issue? Is there an easy way to clean the port without destroying the internals?

Soon enough I'll switch to the 32-bit float world, but for now I'm sticking to what I've got.

You recording in 24-bit?  Recording hot enough levels?  Asking because this had never been an issue for me except when an artist has done a solo acoustic track during a rock show when running 4060's.

I always record 48kHz/24-bit and usually adjust my levels to where the peaks almost clip. I also tested the mics and battery box with the PCM-D10 and there's no noise whatsoever. Using the build-in mics on the A10 also produces a low level of hiss.
