Powering microphones for video

Question: Does one have to use a battery box to power microphones when videoing a concert? I am going to be using CA14s and / or AT853s and wondered if it is necessary to use supplemental power.

I am going to be using AT853s

I've filmed shows with my Sony AX-100 with AT853s plugged into the mic out (no pre-amp) and they worked great.

bear in mind supplying correct power requirements allow mics to function to their stated specs , supply less and you risk more undesired effects such as distortion / brickwalling etc.

definitely use battery box. Also would be great to use attenuator cable too

usually the only time someone *wouldnt* be using a battery box is when the music is not very loud (acoustic show) and they were concerned about extra gear to be on the downlow.

if youre running a camera out in the open it seems like a small battery box is no big deal. sound professioanls make several good designs

if you have a small recorder, I would recommend recording to the recorder and then running line out with the attenuators to the camera.
That way if you overload the camera and/or if something happens with the camera audio you have a back up that can be dubbed
You may find the recorder audio sounds better too and dub just for that reason
