.ape to wav or Flac--What To Use On A Mac
« on: January 19, 2022, 11:46:32 PM »
I'm going through some of my early 24bit recordings and many are in .ape format.  I don't see the original wavs anywhere.  What is the best way to convert these files to wav or Flac?

Thank you.

When I loaded a whole show of tracked ape files they didn't convert to wav and I had over 15 windows to close.

I use xact a lot for converting CDs to Flac.

Very strange —

I just checked a minute ago and was able to convert .ape to FLAC using xAct, no issue whatsoever — I am using xAct version 2.50. I didn’t try to convert to WAV first, just straight ape to flac.

Thanks for trying.  I’ll test one file too to flac not wav.

I was able to convert one of my own ape file to Flac but this one from Dan Heend I couldn't:

shntool [conv]: warning: failed to read data from input file using format: [ape]
shntool [conv]:          + you may not have permission to read file: [/Volumes/Ultra 2TB/sci2001-10-31--4v's Heend 24:48-apes/SCI-20011031-Set1-T1.ape]
shntool [conv]:          + arguments may be incorrect for decoder: [mac]
shntool [conv]:          + verify that the decoder is installed and in your PATH
shntool [conv]:          + this file may be unsupported, truncated or corrupt

It wasn't just the one file but the whole folder of Heend's 24bit recording of SCI 10-31-2001.

My ape file is on the same drive in the same folder.
