i want to be able to play FLACs and iTunes files on my home stereo. they would be played from my iPad, iPhone or Mac. what AirPlay devices are people using to connect to their home stereo. i have an Onkyo receiver.

currently, i'm using Chromecast Audio and HiFi Cast (on Android only), but its not stable, so I want to find a new way to do this.

I have a whole mess of Airport Expresses, and play music either from iTunes or from Clementine/Strawberry via Airfoil. The Airport Expresses aren't still in production, but there are tons of used ones out there for sale.

if you can find a raspberry pi you can run direct to a stereo or pi > dac (onboard or not) > stereo

I use this with volumnio but there are several other free options.

i only have some issues on wifi when pulling 24/192 playback. I havent tried to troubleshoot if its the wifi or the dac (limited to 24/96 on this particular grace)

but a non iOS option as a suggestion. it will play just about every format i throw at it. it is also seen as a chromecast device if thats appealing

it isn't even worth using a pi if you find one at a reasonable cost. get a cheap pc or a mac if you're inclined or there is such a thing.

AppleTV works as both an airplay target and a host for apple music library...
