Topic: Blown pixel on laptop

hey
i just got my first laptop (IBM T-41) today. Fresh out of the box though, I've noticed that there is a blown pixel. its only 1 and its really not noticable without careful inspection...is this a cause for concern or nothing i should worry about? should i return it to IBM and get a replacement or is it not worth it? Input?

most likely they wont take it back anyways- they consider that to be pretty standard.  dont worry about it.  wont affect anything.

And if you were to take it back you run the chance of getting a screen with more dead pixels.  Best to just forget about it.

have you tried "massaging" the area around the pixel ? sometimes some gently rubbing of the LCD can correct it if it isn't actually completely dead. Proceede with caution (ie. don't scratch your screen) but it has worked before. either that or like above just try to ignore it

the massage failed so long as its no risk of spreading or anything though i dont mind leaving it. its small and easy to ignore

Actually, it usually depends on the location of the dead pixels.  If you have a cluster of dead pixels it will usually be replaced, whether it's 3 or 30.

they offered to replace it cuz its brand new out of box but as long as its not degenerative, im too lazy to ship it, i can deal with one missing pixel

you might want to deal with it.  some people refuse to buy machines with dead pixels- think of it as a resale value thing

Wow, that's unheard of.  I dunno if I'd pass on that...

Really, that is unusual.  You might try to tap it like you are flicking a spit wad or something... My Dell had one, did that and it hasn't come back...
