Topic: Trouble Powering Up Edirol R-44

TS Pit Crew,

Hope you guys can get me tuned up and back on the track. I'm having trouble powering up a used R-44 I just grabbed on the YS. I can plug the unit into the wall and it will turn on and works fine. My next step was throwing in some AA batteries into the unit so that they act as a backup when the external battery runs low, they kick over to the AA. The unit will not turn on with just the AA batteries. The unit will not turn on using the external battery.

I'm hoping to find a solution. If anyone can help out give a shout.

Make sure whatever you plug into its external powering jack has its connector configured with sleeve as V+ and center pin as ground.  This is opposite of how the power supply input to most other gear is configured.

If the external battery you attempted to use is not wired that way, confirm that the recorder still powers up when plugged into the wall using an appropriately wired power supply.  If it doesn't you may have blown an internal fuse.. at least I think that's what happens.  Check the old R-44 threads were this was discussed to get more details on that and how to repair if so.

To power mine with a Talentcell I use a cheap cross-wired power supply cable intended for guitar stomp boxes which use the same inverted coaxial power input scheme.  Easy to visually identify it as such because the molded connector on one end is white.

Yep, has the opposite+ - on the pin.  Haven't heard that question in quite some time
