Replacement windscreens for Line Audio CM3/CM4 mics
« on: August 12, 2024, 09:55:32 AM »
Hello all, any tips on a source of replacements for the foams that come with the CM3 and CM4 mics? If they come in packs of 10 or 20, that'd be great.  Thank you for your help!

I run the movo wstt50.  They are very durable.  Might be worth the upgrade?

Why would you need 10 or 20 windscreens?

You should be able to find the correct size here:

Line Audio CM-3 and CM-4 are 20mm Cardioid mics

It isn't hard to find foam or fur for these.

I like Telefunken WS-20 because WindScreen 20 is easy to remember.

I like the way the stock one fits in the case with the mic and clip. The Telefunken look very similar, does it fit in the case?

I'll probably get Movo WST50 also, if I can find them.

The thin foam windscreens are only useful indoors for gentle HVAC currents or as a minimal pop screen when recording voice up close. For anything outdoors, the Movo WSTT50 are necessary.

If you still want another source on the foams, I have these and they are very similar to the Line Audio stock ones:

I mean is the WST50 (is WSTT50 different?) even still obtainable? On Movo site they have WST100 at top level, but pulldown for different lengths yields the WST50 at 3cm. But sold out (or no longer available), just like everywhere else as far as I can tell.

When I went to pick up a second pair a few months ago I noticed this as well. My takeaway was that they didn’t seem to make the WST50 anymore. If true, it’s unfortunate because they are great.

I just ordered a pair of wst-50 3cm windscreens from Movo on 7/10, and that order was fulfilled.  But looking now it seems they are out of stock (again?) so, who knows??

Speaking of windscreens being out of stock, I had purchased some Rycote 5cm windscreens for 19-22mm diameter mics (p/n 104406) a couple ofyears ago, and was needing to add another pair recently, but had much difficulty finding them.  I was ultimately able to source them from Redding Audio's 'rycote liquidation' page.
mics:  AKG c480b (x4) + ck61, ck62, & ck63; Schoeps cmc6 + mk4
pre:  2 x Oade m148, 1 x Oade m248
recorder:  Zoom F8n Pro; Oade Hi-Def mod Tascam HD-P2

I reached out to Movo support a few days ago and was told that the WST50 has been discontinued. Are there any other windscreens that are good for outdoor use with these mics?
