Anyone wants to have a go at my master recording in post?

Anyone wants to have a go at my master recording in post production?

I recorded the American Post-Metal band "Russian Circles" yesterday but the sound on the recording reflects the bass heavy and muffled sound from that evening...

Sadly I´ve tried to do some post mastering myself but I am not that pleased with the result...treble seemed to be the option to use but too much ruined the recording as well...

If you want to try to make a smooth mix, here´s the raw file:

I've downloaded it.  Definitely not my type of music, but I'll give it a shot tomorrow.

I wanted to catch these guys when they came to Chicago last month, but I was already committed to Dopapod.  :-\

Tbh this doesn't sound that bad out of the gate, tho it does sound somewhat like your mics weren't facing toward the stage. You said it was kinda muffled sounding in person, but how were your mics attached and oriented?

I don't personally find the bass to really be a problem, but I listen over Ety ER4s, so that could be why I feel that way. There is some low end rumble <60Hz that the 943s tend to pickup and that I tend to dump, and I don't think the treble is too quiet. For sure, though, the mids are rather subdued, which is problematic for such a guitar-driven group.

So, here's a short sample with a roll-off starting gently ~ 150Hz and becoming much steeper after 60Hz, a moderate curve boost centred at 2.42kHz, and a small 2dB treble lift picking up at 7.5kHz. I also added some volume to the right channel to roughly balance things. I think your recording could use an overall volume boost, too, but I didn't add any so it's easier for you to a/b between this and your raw. Lmk how you like it.

Thank you very much for your efforts!
It sounds great indeed.
I think you nailed it actually...I will use your parametres and try to apply the settings you pointed towards...the heavier stuff might need a different approach...I will test...

I was standing in the center just in front of the soundboard...normally this would be a great position but this evening something was quite not right with the mix in the venue...it lacked some clarity...and I probably should have aimed for the front row as I have done in the past when taping them...but the spot was already taken...oh well lesson learned.
