Android Recording Apps
« on: July 11, 2025, 01:38:40 PM »
Hello there,
In the past I have used field recorder app out of Germany, unfortunately even with the GAIN OFF most shows that I recorded using it ran in the red a lot. has anybody come across an app that you can actually lower the gain? He stated that it's the phones internal gain which is the issue and Samsung perhaps with an update someday could fix that. I have the settings where the developer says it's the best bet to start he also said as of right now there's nothing in their app that can change this except for trial and error with the settings they have. it's more so in the Android settings that the phone has that can't be changed. Thanks for any info,Scott

Have you tried using an attenuator cable?

I'll have to Google that thanks...hmm upon Googling it it seems that looks like it's more than a cable I'm just interested in trying to find something better to use Monday through Wednesday other than my M10 that I normally would be using I'm not bringing it this weekend to Red Rocks since it's a live stream with the three shows happening I'll just grab that audio but figure the opening act not going to be on it and I'm going to have my phone with me anyways so I was going to record that... worst case scenario if it doesn't come out good the live stream audio will be definitely good

Not a very large piece of kit but it is not a software solution.

I got an -11dB pad cable from Core Sound when I used a Zoom H2 which had a very limited input voltage range (0.775 V peak!)

So does this kind of cable lower the recording levels even before its started so you can actually raise the levels with a recording app that's always in the red with no gain applied?

Yes it lowers the signal by 20 db before hitting the phone or deck.

Core Sound offers them with -11 dB, -20 dB, or -30 dB options.
-11 dB was sufficient for my old Zoom "electric shaver"
