DIY Stereo Binaural Microphone Mount (DPA 4060/4061/4063)
« on: August 07, 2025, 10:59:39 AM »
I’m excited to share a project I’ve been working on: a DIY stereo binaural microphone mount using hearing aid shells to house DPA 4060/4061/4063 miniature microphones. This setup is designed for discreet, above-the-neck mounting, making it ideal for those situations where staying low-key is essential.

You can find the full step-by-step guide and more details here:

I’d love to hear your feedback or any suggestions for improvement. If you’ve tried similar DIY microphone mounts or have ideas to share, please jump in!

I like your idea and it's simplicity. I am about to do a set up for my 4060's and this seems like a winner.
THANKS for sharing

Yes, the pickup elements are facing outward, meaning forward toward the sound source.

Thank you very much for your reply. I also noticed that the mic was angled slightly upward—was this to capture sound from the overhead speakers ?

I hadn’t even noticed they were pointing slightly upward—they should be oriented straight ahead, but you can just adjust the capsule angle if needed.

^^ Works OK on my DPA 4060's. Got the idea from someone else here.

I also have DPA's binaural set (4650). That one is more noticeable. But for me, no one has dared asked if they have ever noticed (looks like a hearing disability helper if you can see it, and if you have a hoodie and longer hair then it's almost impossible to see anyways).

I have schoeps and MixPre's and everything, but DPA's binaural set (4650) -> Zoom F3 is the thing I grab first when I am not 100% sure what I'm walking into, and I run it as backup even when I'm running schoeps-> mixpre-6 as a main array. DPA binaural always sounds good, natural, and usable to me. I like it way better than BLM's, for example.
