A pro audio guy I worked with recently told me that he has some Lewitt mics and they are good.
They make a matched stereo pair that lists for $259.

Anyone looking to build a recording setup, without spending big dough might try starting with a set of these!?

An older thread on this website indicates that these are designed in Austria, but manufactured in China.

While not quite the same as these, I had been looking for some compact LDC's and ended up taking a chance on some Lewitt LCT 441's. I had one and ran it a couple time with my stereo pair, and  just acquired the second one. I ran them at a little Floyd cover band show this weekend. I cannot conclude too much from this one outing, as it was almost an onstage+PA situation due to being so close, but they definitely seem to do the job nice. The engineers/designers are Austrian, but they are produced in their own factory in China. The mics are cosmetically very nice and build quality is outstanding, very solid. Figured people might want to hear them. This is basically NOS 7'up 12' from stage. I need another Rycote mount so that I can AB them with my Austrian Audio OC18's

Corrected, Thanks, and glad you enjoyed the listen based on your archive review. They were really tight. Amazingly accurate at times. This was a little but decent PA btw, no editing was done other than normalization. The speakers were 12" run of the mill active PA speakers, I forget the brand.
